I have a dear older church friend, who also loves to craft. Unfortunately, her hands aren't what they once were and she has a granddaughter who is moving into her craft room, so she is getting rid of all her craft supplies. She's completely heartbroken about it, but called me the other day to offer me a set of lightly used (I can barely tell she used them at all, really) Derwent Inktense Pencils. She gave me a REALLY good deal on them, so I snatched them up. To thank her for her kindness, I made this week's Sketch for her, using the BEAUTIFUL pencils she sold me. Saw some Tombow Dual Brush Pens on sale and decided to get them while they were cheap. I'm interested in trying to learn brush lettering, but I knew you could also watercolor with them. So, I colored on the solid part of this layering stamp set with a dark and light tone and then go over it with a water pen for a watercolor effect. It has a very vintage feel to it, I think. Pretty pleased with it. This is my THIRD attempt at this card. I tried white heat embossing the "happy" at first, but it was a massive fail. I hate dealing with ink sometimes. Thank goodness for die cuts! My original sentiment was going to be longer, so I flipped the card sideways. I changed my mind on the sentiment after inking my panel, butdid NOT want to have to remake it a fourth time. I love bold colors with the black and white and the fun little pops of sparkle. I was digging through my blog when I realized that I hadn't done a Sketch Challenge since the beginning of October. 😲 Yikes. So much garbage has happened in the past three months, I just didn't have time, energy, or motivation to make cards (other than Christmas cards) during that time. But I needed a birthday card for my stepmom, who happens to be a nurse, so I finally broke out this adorable stamp set that I purchased JUST for her. I'm later than usual on this, but depression robbed me of my weekend. Really like the clean and simple way this turned out. Fall with a subdued color palette. Drug out some oldies, but goodies for this one. Since it's made of mostly die cuts, it was super fast and easy. Really happy with it. Also, finally excavated part of my sewing table to make a photo spot. What do you think? Do you like it better than my usual set up? I'll probably get some more interesting backgrounds in the future, but this is what I have for now.
